Spice Up Your Life While Fighting Cancer

Cancer Prevention Nutrition Tips

As more and more people around us are getting diagnosed with cancer, people often feel helpless. However, in our Arizona cancer center, we stress that diet plays a significant role in cancer prevention and treatment. Our alternative cancer therapies address the fact that the body cannot heal if it does not get the nutritional elements it needs. Some of the top holistic cancer-fighting spices include garlic, ginger, turmeric, cayenne pepper, and cinnamon.

Garlic is an allium vegetable that may help prevent cancer, especially in the stomach. It contains organosulfur compounds that can strengthen the immune system. On top of that, it’s a great cooking staple. It can be sautéed with seasonal vegetables or mixed in with pasta sauces or marinades.

Fresh ginger contains gingerol, which is thought to have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, which can prevent cancer development. Ginger can be minced into a stir fry or added to hot water to make a refreshing tea.

Turmeric contains curcumin, which can work against the networks of blood vessels in cancer tumors. Curcumin is a powerful anti-inflammatory. It is a key ingredient in curry and other Indian dishes. Use a pinch of turmeric in scrambled eggs for an added subtle flavor to your breakfast.

Cayenne pepper contains capsaicin, another powerful antioxidant. Many believe it is toxic to cancer cells. This spice can be a great addition to popcorn. Mix cayenne pepper, garlic powder, cumin, and salt together with butter and honey, then pour the mixture over a bowl of popcorn and toss.

Cinnamon is a strong antioxidant, anti-microbial, anti-inflammatory, cholesterol-lowering, and immune system-strengthening compound. It can be added to both sweet desserts and savory dishes. Roast cubed pieces of butternut squash with olive oil and a little ground cinnamon for delicious and healthy side dish.

These spices are not only great for you, but also can inspire you to try out new recipes. They can turn tasteless meals into gourmet cuisine.
