Our Special Approach to Fighting Cancer & Inflammation

I’m happy to welcome you to our new series of video blog posts. I’m Dr. Helen Watt from EuroMed Foundation, and over the next several months, I’ll give you a glimpse into what our holistic cancer treatment center is all about.

This month, let’s take a look at the issue of inflammation and how it can chronically prevent our bodies from healing themselves. Inflammation is a sign that the body is fighting off disease or injury. When you have unwelcome cells in your body, or when you cut your finger, for instance, white blood cells rush to the area to start the healing process, and the area becomes inflamed.

This is meant to be a temporary response, but with a chronic disease such as cancer or even arthritis, inflammation becomes chronic, too. In those cases, this “healing” response begins to be a source of its own problems.

At EuroMed, treating this inflammation is a big part of our process when trying to fight cancer. Traditional cancer treatments such as chemotherapy target the cancer cells with an array of toxins, but they do little to support the body’s immune system or treat the inflammation that accompanies chronic disease.

Our approach cuts way back on the level of toxins we introduce to the body by using a low-dose form of chemotherapy called insulin potentiation therapy, or IPT. The process of killing cancer cells itself inevitably creates some inflammation. Our low-dose approach helps ensure those acidic inflammatory levels don’t rise too high.

What’s more, we pair IPT, which doesn’t bring the side effects common with higher chemo doses, with a set of modalities designed specifically to reduce inflammation and strengthen the immune system.

We fight inflammation through nutritional counseling and other lifestyle changes, a big part of the work I do here at EuroMed. It’s amazing to see how a few minor adjustments to a patient’s consumption habits can have such a positive impact.

We also often recommend taking certain supplements or prescription medications to cut down on inflammation:

  • Turmeric curcumin: This supplement, made from the root of the same plant used for the spice common in curry, has natural properties that reduce inflammation and can be helpful in treating a wide range of diseases, from cancer to arthritis to headaches.
  • CELEBREX®: This medication is in the well-known class called NSAIDs, or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory medicines.

Throughout these treatments, we support the body with additional vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants that make the immune system stronger. By combining treatments that target both cancer and its accompanying effects such as inflammation, we can effectively restore our patients’ health and make their bodies even stronger for years to come.
